Understanding the cost of solar panels and battery storage for a Scottish farm or commercial property means looking at more than a single number. System size, roof or land availability, battery capacity, and your existing electrical setup all affect what a suitable installation costs. This page explains the factors that shape pricing, how interest-free finance works, and why we quote every site individually following a no-obligation survey.
Every farm and business is different, so a system that suits a 200-acre arable unit with large grain sheds will look very different to one for a small highland estate or a light industrial unit. The main factors that affect cost are:
We don't publish standard price lists because a system that genuinely suits your farm or business has to be sized to your roofs, your land, and your consumption. A no-obligation survey lets us give you an accurate, written quote rather than a rough guess.
Many Scottish farms have substantial roof area on cattle courts, machinery sheds, grain stores, and workshop units. Using these roofs for solar is usually the most cost-effective option because no additional land or foundations are required. A typical farm shed roof can host a large array capable of offsetting a meaningful share of a farm's electricity use.
Where roof space is limited, unsuitable, or already in use, ground-mount solar is a practical alternative. Ground-mounted arrays can be larger than rooftop systems and can make use of lower-grade or spare land. They require framing and foundations, which adds to the installation cost, but the larger capacity can offset that over the system's life.
Uses existing shed and unit roofs. Typically lower cost per kWp. No land take. Ideal for farms with large, unobstructed roofs.
Uses spare or lower-grade land. Can host larger arrays. Requires frames and foundations. Good when roofs are unsuitable or already used.
A battery lets you store the electricity your panels generate during the day and use it in the evening, at night, or during a power cut. For farms and businesses, this matters because much of your consumption may not line up with peak generation. Milking equipment, refrigeration, lighting, and workshop machinery all draw power outside daylight hours.
Adding battery storage increases the upfront cost of an installation, but it means you use more of the power you generate rather than exporting it. Your quote will show the system with and without battery options where relevant, so you can compare.
Battery capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Larger batteries store more surplus generation. Your survey covers your consumption patterns so the battery is sized to your actual usage, not oversized.
Interest-free finance is available for farms and commercial properties, up to £30,000, subject to status. This means qualifying businesses can spread the cost of a paid installation without paying interest on the financed amount. Where a system costs more than £30,000, your quote will set out the finance options and any balance separately.
We quote for paid installations only. There are no grants or funding schemes involved in what we offer, and we do not promise any product at no cost.
0% VAT applies to solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027. This reduced rate applies to qualifying installations and means the cost of your system is lower than it would be at the standard rate. Your quote will show the VAT applicable at the time of installation.
The only reliable way to know what a suitable solar and battery system will cost for your farm or business is a survey. We arrange no-obligation surveys across Scotland, carried out with an understanding of agricultural and commercial properties. Once the survey is complete, you receive a written quote and can decide whether to proceed.
To arrange your survey, complete the quote form or call us on 0141 230 0198. There is no obligation, and we will not pressure you to proceed.
Costs vary widely depending on roof or land area, system size, battery capacity, and the electrical work needed to integrate with your existing supply. Because every farm and business site is different, we provide costs through a written quote following a no-obligation survey, rather than publishing standard prices.
Interest-free finance is available for farms and commercial properties, up to £30,000, subject to status. Where a system costs more than this, your quote will set out the finance and payment options clearly so you can decide what works for your business.
0% VAT applies to solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027. This is a UK-wide rate change and applies to qualifying installations. Your quote will reflect the VAT applicable at the time of installation.
A properly specified system has minimal ongoing costs. Your quote will include the installation and equipment. As with any electrical asset, periodic inspection and maintenance are recommended over the system's life.
Arrange a no-obligation survey and we'll send you a written quote, with interest-free finance options where applicable.
